Established in 1915, Van Corlaer Elementary School educates more than 470 students in grades pre-kindergarten through grade five.
Our mission is to develop literate, expressive, considerate and productive citizens who remain lifelong learners.
We have a very dedicated staff, who are committed to our mission and consistently go above and beyond for our students.
Our school offers student support services, free meals and transportation for students who live more than a mile from the school.
Van Corlaer was named in honor of Arent Van Corlaer, a Dutch colonist in New Netherlands who founded the City of Schenectady in 1662.
Our school is located in the Bellevue neighborhood.
Children who attend Van Corlaer go on to Mont Pleasant Middle School and then Schenectady High School.
We have great partnerships with many community agencies. Many of our students attend City Life Youth Group weekly. Others have a mentor from the Bellevue Reformed Church.
Every student's path to graduation includes excellent teachers, principals and other caring adults who can help them meet academic expectations, plan for their futures and feel connected to our school. We work to ensure that all of our students have the tools, resources and the opportunity to navigate a path to graduation and beyond.
