2023-2024 COVID-19 Guidelines (December 2023)

The following is a summary of the updated guidance and protocols provided by the NYS Department of Health, CDC and NYS Education Department on August 22, 2022.

MASKING

Universal masking is not required but optional for everyone to prevent the spread of illness.

● Masking is recommended post COVID-19 infection upon return to school or work on days 6-10.

● Individuals with two negative rapid tests on day 6 and day 8 post infection may remove masks prior to day 10 if their symptoms are improving

EXPOSURE TO AN INDIVIDUAL WHO HAS TESTED POSITIVE

Quarantine is no longer recommended for people exposed to COVID-19.

● If you are exposed, you/your child may remain at work/school unless symptoms develop.

● Those exposed to COVID-19 should follow CDC recommendations to wear a well-fitted mask and monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, testing is recommended.

IF YOU HAVE SYMPTOMS

The CDC continues to recommend that individuals with symptoms of COVID-19 stay home and test as soon as possible after symptoms begin.

● It is also recommended you/your child stay home if you are sick and awaiting test results.

● As with any infectious illness, regardless of COVID-19 result, staff/students should not be in attendance with current or worsening symptoms. Individuals must also be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

● If you need a COVID-19 test kit or have questions regarding what to do, please contact your school’s health office.Note: Free testing continues to be available through Schenectady County Public Health at the Ellis McClellan Campus for students, families and district employees (600 McClellan St.)

IF A STAFF MEMBER OR STUDENT TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

●Isolate for 5 days, with day zero being the first day of symptoms or the positive test is asymptomatic.

● You may return to work/school on day 6 with a well fitted mask if symptoms are resolving. Individuals with two negative rapid tests on day 6 and day 8 post infection may remove masks prior to day 10 if their symptoms are improving.

● Parents: continue to report positive cases to your school’s health office.

EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE TESTED POSITIVE & WOULD LIKE TO USE NYS PAID COVID-19 LEAVE

● Contact your building leader to report your COVID matter; and

● Complete the self-report form.

ELIGIBILITY FOR NYS COVID-19 PAID LEAVE

If an employee tests positive for COVID-19, employees can request paid leave for the duration of the applicable isolation order which is typically five (5) days. Employees may take up to a total of three periods of leave under the law.

AND

If this is your first request for paid leave; attach picture of positive rapid test.

● If this is your second or third request for paid leave; you must attach the documentation listed below.

Accepted Documentation:

PCR or rapid result from a testing site

● PCR or rapid result from a medical facility or medical office

● Note from a licensed medical provider confirming your positive result.

Return the required documentation to Lindsay Baroody via email and your request will be submitted to HR.  If you are eligible, the sick days used during isolation will be credited back to your sick time accruals.

WEEKLY SURVEILLANCE TESTING OF UNVACCINATED STAFF IS NO LONGER REQUIRED
