Issue No. 3, September 20 2024
Dear Schenectady Community,
In light of recent events at Schenectady High School, we know our school community has many questions and concerns regarding safety in our schools. The events that happened since the start of school are concerning and we want you to know that safety is always a top priority. Whether you are a student, staff member, parent, family member or community member, we want you to always feel safe in our schools.
While we carefully debrief following any and every incident and respond with necessary action, I think this is a good time to provide an update on safety in our district. Today I am sharing with you a video that introduces you to Jeff Russo, our District Director of School Climate and Safety and provides an overview of safety in and across our district including safety measures, best practices, processes, communication and more.
We will be holding a Listening Session, Tuesday, September 24, 6 p.m. at Schenectady High School. Below is a flyer.
If you have questions or concerns, please submit them through Let's Talk.
The next Board of Education meeting is Wednesday, September 25, 6:30 p.m. at 530 Liberty St. Safety discussions will continue at this meeting. This is a public meeting, open to all. Public comment will be allowed at the beginning and end of the meeting.
Thank you for continuing to partner with us.
I wish you a great weekend and look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carlos M. Cotto, Jr.
Superintendent of Schools
