Jonathn Cooley as named Assistant Principal of Mont Pleasant MS

The Schenectady City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Cooley as a new Assistant Principal of Mont Pleasant Middle School,effective January 7, 2026. Mr. Cooley’s appointment was officially approved by the Board of Education during their meeting on December 3, 2025.

Cooley joins Mont Pleasant with a wealth of leadership experience and a deep commitment to fostering positive school culture. He most recently served as the Principal of Oxford Academy High School, where he was recognized as the November 2024 Employee of the Month.

During his tenure as a building leader, Cooley became known for his high visibility and hands-on approach, prioritizing relationships with students, staff, and families. He implemented several innovative initiatives to boost school spirit and safety, including, "Mr. Cooley’s Club for Cool Kids" to recognize respectful and hard-working students, a Kindness E-wall for students and staff to share uplifting messages, and streamlined safety protocols, including the implementation of electronic hall pass systems and updated locker policies.

Prior to his administrative roles, Cooley spent 16 years as a Biology teacher at Union Endicott High School, where he served as a mentor to colleagues and led professional development sessions.

Cooley earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, with minors in Visual Arts and Japanese), from Union College, Master of Arts in Teaching from Union Graduate College, and CAS in Educational Leadership from Binghamton University.  Cooley holds New York State certifications as a School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL).
