Kira Vásconez is named new Assistant Director of Bilingual Education and World Language

The Schenectady City School District is proud to announce the appointment of Kira Vásconez as the new Assistant Director of Bilingual Education and World Language. Her appointment was officially approved by the Board of Education on Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

Vásconez brings over 18 years of expertise in classroom instruction and building administration to this role. She is a familiar face within our district, having spent the last five years in the Schenectady City School District.  She served as an Assistant Principal at Schenectady High School from 2021-2023 and for the last three years served as the Assistant Principal of Paige Elementary Community School.


As a bilingual speaker, Vásconez leads with a unique perspective, drawing on her personal experiences to bridge gaps in communication and engagement. She is known for fostering collaborative, positive environments where students, parents, and staff from multilingual backgrounds feel seen and heard.

Vásconez has already been instrumental in shaping the district’s future through her work on the District Dual Language Program Committee. In her new leadership role, Vásconez will work closely with the English as a New Language (ENL) and World Languages departments. Her responsibilities will be focused on driving excellence in multilingual instruction through program implementation and the Dual Language Bilingual Education program, curriculum development, professional growth supporting educators with the necessary tools and training to excel in multilingual instruction and strengthening the partnership between the district and families to ensure equitable access to educational resources.

Vásconez earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from The University of Michigan - Dearborn and a Master of Arts in Foreign Language Teaching from SUNY Stony Brook.  She also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from SUNY Stony Brook, in addition to holding certifications as a School District Leader (SDL) and School Building Leader (SBL).

Vásconez will officially begin in her new position. on April 13, 2026.  Please join us in congratulating her.
