2026-2027 Budget Proposal
On Wednesday, April 15, the Schenectady City School District Board of Education approved a proposed budget for the 2026–2027 school year that maintains all current programs and services for students while continuing our commitment to fiscal responsibility and community stability.
The proposed budget totals $310,543,870, representing a $15 million (5.09%) increase over the current year. This increase is primarily driven by rising salary and benefit costs and is offset by New York State Foundation Aid, the district’s fund balance, and the expiration of prior debt.
Most importantly, for the eighth consecutive year, this budget includes a 0% tax levy increase. As a result, the budget requires a simple majority to pass.
In addition to the annual budget, voters will consider three facility propositions designed to strengthen our schools, expand opportunities, and improve efficiency, all at no additional cost to taxpayers.
Three Facility Propositions
Investing in Our Schools and Community
In addition to the annual budget, voters will consider three facility propositions designed to strengthen our schools, expand opportunities, and improve efficiency, all at no additional cost to taxpayers.
Proposition #1
Operations & Maintenance Facility
1080 Catalyn Street
Cost: Not to exceed $850,000
Impact on Tax Levy: $0
The district proposes purchasing this property to relocate our Operations and Maintenance Department from Mont Pleasant Middle School to a dedicated, secure facility.
This investment will:
Free up space at Mont Pleasant for student programming and activities
Enhance student safety by relocating non-instructional operations
Improve efficiency and working conditions for our maintenance team

Proposition #2:
Adult & Continuing Education Center
80 Nott Terrace
Cost: Not to exceed $3,500,000
Impact on Tax Levy: $0
The second proposal is seeking permission to purchase 80 Nott Terrace. The district currently leases this facility for Adult and Continuing Education programs, which serves hundreds of Schenectady residents through:
High School Equivalency (GED) preparation
English as a New Language (ENL) classes
Workforce training programs
Purchasing this building will:
Secure a permanent home for these critical community services
Eliminate ongoing rental costs, maximizing long-term savings

Proposition #3
City As Our Campus / Early College High School / P-TECH
433 State Street
Cost: Over the 20-year term is $11,374,781.01
Impact on Tax Levy: $0
To support the continued growth of City As Our Campus, Early College High School (ECHS), and the P-TECH program, the district is proposing a 20-year lease at our current location.
These innovative programs provide students with expanded pathways to college and careers:
Early College High School (ECHS): Students can earn up to 60 college credits (two years of college) at no cost, saving families thousands in tuition.
P-TECH Program: A six-year pathway that blends high school, college, and career training, allowing students to earn an associate degree and gain direct access to high-demand career fields.
Total lease cost: $11,374,781.01 over 20 years
This investment will expand access to college credit, industry credentials, and real-world career experiences, ensuring more students graduate prepared for both college and the workforce.
