District, school and community leaders came together on Monday, October 6 to hold an official unveiling and provide a tour of the new Steinmetz Freshman Leadership Academy, a state-of-the-art facility, dedicated exclusively to the success of ninth-grade students.
The new academy, which opened in September, focuses on helping students thrive academically, socially, and personally as they transition to high school. The building has undergone significant renovations to create a modern and dedicated learning environment. Students explore interests and career fields in ninth grade before moving to a Leadership Community Pathway at the main Schenectady High School campus in 10th grade.
On hand Monday was Superintendent Carlos M. Cotto, Jr. Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy, Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, SCSD Board President Bernice Rivera, SFLA Principal Justin Lanley, members of the design and construction teams, district leaders, and students representing the inaugural class.
