testing day October 23

Taking the SAT is a critical stepping-stone on a student’s path toward college and career success. All Schenectady High School students can participate in school-wide testing day on October 23, 2025. All tests will be free and no sign up is necessary. The tests will be administered in the morning, followed by a half day for students.

Our school-wide testing day removes a number of barriers to SAT participation for Schenectady students: individually registering for the test; paying for the test or seeking a waiver; traveling to an unfamiliar location; and having to take the test on a Saturday, when students and families may have other obligations. Incorporating the SAT as a school activity also promotes a strong college and career culture – students envisioning and thinking about college and career planning throughout their high school career.

As part of our whole school testing day:

  • Seniors can measure their readiness for college can take an official SAT during class time.

  • Juniors can qualify for scholarships by taking The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).

  • Sophomores can take the PSAT/NMSQT for practice before trying to qualify for scholarships next year.

  • Freshman will take The PSAT 8/9 ,designed to help students understand where they are and where they want to go.
