Philip Weinman, Freshman Academy Principal
Philip Weinman, currently serves as the Freshman Academy Principal and Night School Principal at Schenectady High School. He is a Board Certified Social Studies Teacher who has been nominated for teacher of the year, the YMCA outstanding educator award and the Schenectady County Human Rights award.
In his instructional work he has developed National Board professional learning communities, culturally responsive professional development and shaped the creation of general educational continuum services at Schenectady High School. Philip has also led the building in developing a comprehensive restorative practices model, focused on creating a culture of care.
His vision as an educator is to cultivate a trauma informed school that is invested in restorative practices as a necessary means for creating a safe and responsible environment. Outlined in his Educator’s Voice articles, Moving Beyond Zero-Tolerance Policies and Closing the Opportunity Gap by Creating a Culture of Care he has helped drastically reduce disciplinary infractions and provided an equal voice for the students of Schenectady High School. He started and Co-Facilitated the Teen Advocacy Group to ensure students have access and support around the development of improving school wide educational systems.Ph
