Happy Monday! For this week’s #ProjectBeHere message, we’re thrilled to highlight a recent attendance initiative that was a major success. This past Sunday’s JCC Touch-A-Truck event brought together nearly 700 attendees for a day of community and discovery, marking a phenomenal 50% increase over last year! We were especially proud to see nearly 200 complimentary tickets redeemed by students who earned them through their positive school attendance. Our volunteers at the ticket booth had the wonderful opportunity to personally congratulate these achievers, and the genuine pride on their faces was easily the highlight of the day. It was truly inspiring to see these young learners celebrated for their dedication and enjoying the rewards of their hard work alongside their families. 🚛💨✨ #StudentSuccess

Yesterday, students and admins gathered at Rivers for the City’s Fair Housing Event. It was a powerful day of connecting with community leaders and developers to discuss housing rights and accessibility for everyone. 🏠

A huge congratulations to Raziyah Miles, the winner of our Program Cover Design Contest! Raziyah’s artwork was chosen as the official face of the event program.

We also want to celebrate our talented runners-up: Tristan Weiss, Richard Monegro, Rhianna Seecharran, and Immanuel Piper. Their incredible designs were on full display for all to see.

Thank you to everyone involved for supporting such an important cause! #SchenectadyRising

The SCSD budget hearing will take place on May 6, followed by the budget vote on May 19, which features a 0% tax levy increase for the eighth consecutive year. This year's budget also includes three facility propositions.

The second of these three facility propositions is 80 Nott Terrace, the proposed permanent home for our Adult & Continuing Education Center. By moving from renting to owning, the district will secure a future for vital services like GED prep and workforce training, while also freeing up space at the Washington Irving Educational Center for the growing Big Picture program. To learn more about Proposition 2, please visit schenectadyschools.org/page/2026-2027budget. 🏫💼

🚨 SAFETY ALERT 🚨

We want to inform our families of a report received today regarding a suspicious encounter in the Central Park area. A student reported being approached by an individual in a vehicle.

Police have been notified and are currently investigating.

🛡️ Help Remind Your Children

Please take a moment to talk with your children about "Stranger Danger" and situational awareness.

Safety Tips for Kids:

Trust Your Gut: If a person or a vehicle makes you feel uncomfortable, move away immediately.

The "No-Go-Tell" Rule:
1. SAY NO if a stranger tries to talk to you or offer you something.
2. RUN to a safe place or a trusted adult.
3. TELL a parent, teacher, or police officer right away.

Keep Your Distance: Never approach a vehicle to talk to someone you do not know, even if they seem friendly or ask for directions.

Safety in Numbers: Whenever possible, walk to and from activities with a friend or in a group.

Happy Monday! We hope you’ve had a great start to your week. Reminder: there are only about 9 weeks left of this school year! It is important to show up, stay on top of your work, and enjoy time with your friends. Please make attendance a priority—missing school only pushes you further behind your classmates and further from your goals.

Parents and guardians, if you need support motivating your child to attend school, please reach out to your student’s teacher, counselor, or your school’s attendance specialist. Click the link to learn more about why attendance matters:
