Exciting News: Schenectady County Public Library Cards for Your Student!
Dear Families,
Next week, a librarian from the Schenectady County Public Library will be visiting our school during our scheduled library class. They will be speaking with our students about the many programs, books, and digital tools available to them through our local public libraries.
A public library card provides your child with free access to thousands of books, audiobooks, research databases, and other resources.
You can complete the sign-up form online from home at Library Card Sign-up.
We are making the process as simple as possible! After their visit next week, the SCPL librarian will process the applications and drop off all newly created library cards directly to our school, and our school librarian will distribute it to students.
Having a library card is a fantastic way to support your child’s literacy and encourage a lifelong love of reading. We are so lucky to have such a robust library system here in Schenectady County!
Please feel free to reach out to Ms. De Rosa derosav@schenectadyschools.org if you have any questions.

Behind every "I have a stomachache" or missed bus, there is often a child or teen struggling with deep-seated anxiety. When school avoidance becomes a pattern, it’s rarely about being "difficult"—it’s about a nervous system that feels unsafe.
Common signs that it’s more than just a case of the Mondays:
* Physical symptoms (nausea, fatigue) that disappear on weekends or holidays.
* Intense distress during the morning routine or the night before school.
* Frequent calls from the nurse's office to come home.
* Withdrawal from friends or extracurricular activities they used to love.
What can you do?
* Validate, Don't Negotiate: Acknowledge that their fear feels real, even if the school environment is safe.
* Identify the "Why": Is it social anxiety, academic pressure, or sensory overload?
* Build a Bridge: Work with teachers and school counselors to create a "soft landing" (like checking in with a staff member) when they arrive.
You don’t have to navigate this journey in silence. Small steps forward are still progress. 🤍
