Safety Note: Over the weekend we learned that a student who attends Big Picture at Washington Irving threatened another student on Snapchat. The student threatened to bring a gun to school and harm the student. Police were immediately notified and launched an investigation. Schenectady Police located, arrested and charged the student. Police issued a release this morning. Members of our Student Support Team will be at Big Picture Monday to provide additional support to students. We will have additional safety and administrative team members at Washington Irving on Monday morning. Police reported that no gun was located during the investigation and there is no indication that there are any additional threats to student safety Safety is always our top priority. Thank you to those who shared information and to all of you for your continued support and cooperation. Please continue to remind students if they see or hear anything that seems suspicious to always report it to an adult.

Safety Note: Threat on Social Media
World Day of Social Justice is meant to remind people that advocacy and activism is what love and justice looks like. It is to uphold the principles of social justice by promoting gender equality, and the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants; it is meant to advance social justice by dismantling and removing barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability.

Today Grades 3-5 went to the Rotterdam Square Cinema to see Dog Man. This trip encourages a love of reading by seeing the words come to life, boosts creativity (encourages students to think creatively), promotes positive themes (the series emphasizes kindness, teamwork and resilience), connects reading to real-life experiences and engages in different learning styles.
